Neymar and Roberto Firmino score second-half goals to secure Brazil's win

Mexico's World Cup journey comes to an end in the round of 16

Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals on Monday, defeating Mexico 2-0 in the round of 16. Neymar scored the opening goal in the 51st minute, and Roberto Firmino added a second in the 88th minute to seal the victory.

Brazil controlled much of the match, with 62% possession and 18 shots on goal. Mexico had just four shots on goal, and neither team managed to create many clear-cut chances in the first half.

Neymar broke the deadlock early in the second half, when he received a pass from Vinicius Junior and fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Firmino's goal came late in the match, when he headed home a cross from Dani Alves.

With the victory, Brazil advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face either Belgium or Japan. Mexico's World Cup journey comes to an end in the round of 16, but they can be proud of their performance in Russia.
